AI subscription refunds: who gives your money back?

Most AI tools are easy to start and harder to leave. A free trial turns into an annual charge, a “cancel anytime” plan keeps billing until the period ends, and a refund window can be a few days or simply not exist.

We read the terms of service, refund policies and billing help articles of every tool we review, and graded each one on a single question: if the product disappoints you, can you stop paying quickly and get money back?

HeadshotPro
$29 one-time
BThe refund page promises a 30-day money-back guarantee with a complete refund and 'No conditions', self-serve for individual and team orders. The terms of service are stricter: a full refund within 14 days of purchase only if no AI photos were downloaded, at-cost refunds for teams that created 10 or more models, and all later purchases final after any earlier refund. Source
Aragon AI
$35 one-time (headshots); app plans from $15/month
CHeadshot orders get a free redo or a full refund within 14 calendar days, but the policy says downloading your photos counts as using the product, and requests can be refused if you ignored the upload instructions. Subscriptions are refundable within 14 days only for the latest charge and only if no credits were used; missed-cancellation renewals are not refunded. The terms add that cancellation must reach support@aragon.ai before the renewal date. Source
ChatGPT
$8/month (Go, US price)
CYou can cancel any time and keep access to the end of the paid period, but the help center states that payments are generally non-refundable. A discretionary refund may be granted on an individual plan if you ask within seven days of the charge and have made no substantial use. Forgetting to cancel, dissatisfaction or a plan change do not qualify on their own, and there is no prorated refund after day seven. EU, UK and Turkey residents get a prorated refund within 14 days. Unused Business seats are generally not refunded for the committed period. Source
Descript
$16/person/month billed yearly (Hobbyist; $24 month to month)
CThe refund policy is explicit but short: plan refunds must be requested within 48 hours of the invoice date, Editor seat refunds within 7 days, and top-ups are not refundable. Cancelling, downgrading or switching from annual to monthly takes effect at the end of the cycle, with no proration or refund for unused time. Source
ElevenLabs
$5/month billed yearly (Starter; $6 month to month)
CYou can cancel at any time and keep access until the cycle ends, then drop to Free. Money back is narrow: the Terms say all sales are final with refunds at ElevenLabs' sole discretion, and the help centre limits refund requests to 14 days from payment and only if no credit quota was used in that period. Prepaid credit purchases are non-refundable. Source
GPTZero
$12.99/month billed $155.88 yearly (Premium)
CThe terms (updated August 21, 2026) give new users a 14-day free trial, after which 'the account will be charged according to the user's chosen subscription'. You can cancel any time in settings; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term. The terms contain no refund policy. The help center says you can request a refund if dissatisfied with accuracy or performance, reviewed case by case, with no window or proration stated. After a paid plan ends, documents older than 30 days become inaccessible. Source
InVideo AI
$4/seat/month billed yearly (Basic; $9 month to month)
CThe Terms say fees are non-refundable, with one exception: a request within 7 days of an initial purchase or renewal, if no credits or premium features were used. The help centre adds that a plan counts as used if anything was generated or downloaded, and that approval is at InVideo's discretion. Plans renew automatically; cancelling keeps the plan active to the end of the cycle. Source
Perplexity
$17/month (Pro, billed yearly)
COutside regions with statutory rights, monthly plans can be refunded only within 24 hours of purchase, and annual plans get a full refund within 72 hours, with 'no exceptions' after that. EU, UK and Turkey customers get 14 days, and South Korea and Brazil 7 days. Perplexity will not process a second refund after granting one. The same policy applies to Enterprise plans, and removing a seat mid-period does not create a credit. Source
Claude
$17/month (Pro, billed yearly at $200)
DThe Consumer Terms state that, except as the terms provide or where law requires, all payments are non-refundable. To avoid renewal you must cancel at least 24 hours before the last day of the term. You keep access until the paid period ends. The EEA and UK get a prorated refund within 14 days, and Brazil, Mexico, South Korea and Taiwan get a 7-day right to cancel. The help center offers a refund-eligibility check but publishes no window for US buyers. Source
Cursor
$8/month (Plus; $80 billed yearly)
DThe terms (updated September 3, 2026) say 'all fees are in U.S. Dollars and are non-refundable, except as required by law'. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period, and 'You must cancel your Subscription Service at least 24 hours before it renews', in the billing menu or by email. A prorated refund is promised only if Anysphere itself ends your subscription early, and not if you are terminated for breaking the terms. Source
Gamma
€8/seat/month billed annually (Plus; the pricing page lists euros, no USD list published)
DRefunds are available 'only within the first 3 days of subscribing', on monthly or annual plans, and only if you contact support and have used fewer credits than a plan threshold: 300 on Plus, 600 on Pro, 900 on Team, 1,000 on Business and 2,000 on Ultra. Cancelling within three days does not trigger a refund automatically. After that, nothing is refunded except where the law requires. The terms (effective September 9, 2025) also say fees are non-refundable, rule out prorated refunds, and ask you to cancel at least 30 days before the renewal date. Source
Google Gemini
$4.99/month (Google AI Plus, US price)
DThe subscriptions page says you can cancel anytime but gives no refunds for partial billing periods, except where the law requires it. The Google One terms add that you keep access until the end of the current billing period and that refunds go through the seller's refund policy. Neither page sets out a refund window for US customers. Source
Grammarly
$12/month billed yearly ($144/year)
DThe support center says refunds are issued only if required by law, and the terms state all payments are non-refundable, with no refunds or credits for partly used periods. You can cancel at any time and keep Pro until the end of the billing cycle, after which the account converts to Free. The plans page says trial users get an email reminder 2 days before the trial ends. App Store purchases must be refunded through Apple. Source
HeyGen
$24/month billed yearly (Creator; $29 month to month)
DThe Terms say payments are non-refundable except where required by law. The help centre allows that HeyGen and Google Play purchases 'may be refunded within 15 days' (14 days for Apple), but reviews requests case by case, may refuse if a significant amount of credits has been used, and typically will not reimburse months of a forgotten subscription. Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access to the end of the cycle. Source
Jasper
$59/month per seat, billed yearly
DThe terms say there are no refunds for cancellation, and none for unused time if Jasper ends your account. After a free trial you are charged automatically, and the terms say you will not get a notice that the trial ended; you must cancel before midnight Pacific on the last trial day. The terms also say cancellation takes effect in the month after you give notice, while the pricing FAQ says you keep access until the end of your billing cycle. Source
Midjourney
$8/month (Basic, billed yearly at $96)
DYou can cancel at any time, and the cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing cycle, with remaining Fast time still usable until then. Refunds, however, are available only if your account has used less than 20 GPU minutes over its entire lifetime, counting Fast, Turbo and Relax time. If the refund option does not appear when you cancel, Midjourney says it cannot refund you. Accounts suspended for rule violations get nothing back. Source
Otter.ai
$8.33/user/month (Pro, billed annually)
DThe help center is blunt: 'Subscriptions are non-refundable', including when you forget to cancel. Plans renew automatically; cancel at least 24 hours before the next billing date. Only the workspace owner or an admin can cancel, paid features run to the end of the period, and a one-time pause is offered instead. App Store and Google Play purchases follow Apple's and Google's refund rules. The terms (September 19, 2025) confirm that 'All fees are in U.S. Dollars and are non-refundable'. Source
Synthesia
$14/month billed yearly (Starter; $19 month to month)
DThe billing help article says all purchases are non-cancelable and, unless your contract says otherwise, non-refundable, including renewals you did not use. Studio Avatars cannot be refunded once delivered. You can cancel from Billing in account settings, but must do so before the renewal date, and Synthesia warns a reminder email is not guaranteed on every plan. Source
Undetectable AI
$5/month (10K words, billed $60 yearly)
DThe terms (updated 01/01/2025) say refunds are not provided unless required by law. The only exception is a refund of credits when a submission 'provably flags as less than 75% human on a reputable AI detector', requested within 30 days. California and New York residents can cancel in the dashboard; everyone else must email contact@undetectable.ai. Cancelling stops future charges but does not refund past periods, and if the company stops operating, yearly plans end without compensation. Source
Magica
$12.50/month billed yearly ($14.99 month to month)
EThe refund policy, effective October 23, 2024, says all subscription payments are final, non-refundable and non-transferable, with no pro-rated refunds for unused time; the only exception named is a demonstrable billing error. Subscriptions renew automatically, and the terms say to cancel at least one day before the term ends. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current cycle. Source

Before you pay

  • Cancel before the renewal date, not after: almost every vendor bills the new period automatically.
  • Annual plans are rarely refunded once the window has passed, even if you stop using the tool.
  • For one-time packs (headshots, credits), read the conditions: downloading the result often voids the refund.
  • In-app purchases on iOS or Android are refunded by Apple or Google, under their rules, not the vendor’s.

Each finding comes from the vendor's own page, read on the date shown in the full review. Terms change: re-read them before you buy. How we grade.
