Our verdict
Cursor gives you the strongest output terms in this category: Anysphere assigns you its rights in the code it suggests, and its terms promise no training on your content without your explicit agreement. The bill is harder to predict. The weekly pool is described only as multiples of the Plus plan, third-party models are paid separately from prepaid credit, and fees are non-refundable. Start on Premium monthly, set a spending cap, and turn on Privacy Mode yourself.
Good fit if you…
- Developers who want clear ownership of AI-suggested code
- Teams that can enforce Privacy Mode from an admin dashboard
- Heavy users who prefer a weekly refresh to a monthly one
Skip it if you…
- You need a published, absolute number of requests or tokens before paying
- You want a refund if the plan does not suit you
- You mainly use third-party models and want them included in the subscription price
The fine print, graded
Five questions, graded A (best for you) to E from Anysphere, Inc.'s own pages. How grades work.
Pricing clarity · Are prices public and free of traps?
Prices are public in US dollars and exclude applicable taxes. The pricing page shows monthly figures; the docs list the annual ones ($80, $300, $1,000 and $2,000). Two things raise the real cost: third-party models on Premium and above are billed at the model's API list price from prepaid credit, and Teams pay an extra 'Cursor Token Rate' of $0.25 per million tokens on eligible third-party requests. The pricing page names X Subscription Corp. as the seller, while the terms are with Anysphere, Inc.
SourceCancel & refunds · Can you leave, and get money back?
The terms (updated September 3, 2026) say 'all fees are in U.S. Dollars and are non-refundable, except as required by law'. Subscriptions renew automatically for the same period, and 'You must cancel your Subscription Service at least 24 hours before it renews', in the billing menu or by email. A prorated refund is promised only if Anysphere itself ends your subscription early, and not if you are terminated for breaking the terms.
SourceLimits & credits · What is capped, and do credits expire?
Every paid plan includes one weekly pool for Cursor's own models, and 'Unused included usage does not roll over'. Pool sizes are given only as multiples of Plus (4x, 15x, 50x), not as absolute numbers. When the pool runs out you wait for the reset, upgrade or draw on prepaid credit, which stays available until used or for 365 days after purchase. A monthly additional-usage cap limits how much paid extra usage you can consume.
SourceYour data · Is your content used to train models?
The terms say Anysphere 'WILL NOT USE CONTENT TO TRAIN, OR ALLOW ANY THIRD PARTY TO TRAIN, ANY AI MODELS' unless you explicitly agree. The data-use page adds that with Privacy Mode off, Cursor 'may use and store codebase data, prompts, editor actions, code snippets' to improve features and train models. None of the pages we read states whether Privacy Mode is on by default for individuals; the docs say it is on by default only for Enterprise teams. Cursor says it holds zero-data-retention agreements with its model providers.
SourceOutput rights · Can you use what you make commercially?
Section 5.3 of the terms is as buyer-friendly as it gets: 'Anysphere hereby assigns to you all of our right, title, and interest if any in and to any Suggestions', and you keep your rights in your inputs. The terms note that suggestions may resemble output given to other users, and you get no rights in theirs. No branding or watermark applies to code.

User reviews · What do paying users report?
Developers on Product Hunt love it (5.0 from 980 reviews), while paying customers on Trustpilot are angry (1.5 from 356 reviews, 81% one-star). The most repeated complaints are billing: plan changes and usage charges people did not expect, refunds refused, and quotas that run out within days. The most repeated praise is speed: codebase-aware autocomplete and multi-file edits in a familiar VS Code-style editor. Some short five-star Product Hunt reviews come from accounts with only one or two reviews.
| Platform | Rating | Reviews | Read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Trustpilot | 1.5/5 | 356 | November 5, 2026 |
| Product Hunt | 5/5 | 980 | November 5, 2026 |
Recurring complaints
- Unexpected charges: plans upgraded without clear consent, duplicate charges and large on-demand usage bills
- Refunds refused, especially on annual plans, even after little use
- Usage allowances on top plans that run out within days, with limits not clearly explained before buying
- Support that is mostly automated and hard to escalate to a person
- Output quality that some feel has dropped, plus heavy memory use and freezes on large projects
What users like
- Codebase-aware autocomplete and fast inline edits
- Multi-file refactoring and debugging help that cut context switching
- Feels familiar right away because it is built on VS Code

What Cursor is today
Cursor is a code editor with built-in AI: chat about your codebase, inline edits, an agent that can make multi-file changes, cloud agents and automated code review on higher tiers. Its current plans also bundle usage of Grok products, and the pricing page names X Subscription Corp. as the company selling subscriptions, while the terms of service are with Anysphere, Inc. Users on older plans may still be on 'legacy' plans with monthly pools.
We read the pricing page, the terms, the privacy policy, the data-use and security pages and three documentation pages. We did not write code with it, so this is a review of the paperwork, not the editor.
How the weekly pool really works
Your subscription buys a pool of usage for Cursor's own models that refreshes every week. It does not carry over, and the next reset date shows in your dashboard. The documents describe the pool only relative to Plus: Premium gets four times as much, Super fifteen, Ultra fifty. That makes plans easy to compare with each other but hard to compare with competitors, because there is no absolute number of requests or tokens.
Third-party models are a separate meter. On Premium and above they are available at the model's API list price from the first request, paid from prepaid top-ups. Leftover credit does not reset weekly; it lasts until used or 365 days.
Billing traps worth knowing
- The 24-hour rule. Cancel at least a day before renewal or you pay for another period.
- No refunds. The terms make fees non-refundable unless the law says otherwise.
- Price changes. Anysphere can change fees with advance notice, and continuing to use the service after the change counts as accepting it.
- Team surcharge. Teams and Enterprise pay a $0.25 per million token rate on top of API prices for eligible third-party models.
- Spending cap. Set the monthly additional-usage limit before you top up, so a long agent run cannot drain your balance.
Your code and model training
The legal documents are reassuring: the terms and privacy policy both say inputs and suggestions are not used for training unless you explicitly agree. The product page is more conditional, describing what Cursor may collect when Privacy Mode is off. Our advice is to check the setting yourself rather than rely on a default we could not confirm. On teams, an admin can enforce Privacy Mode so members cannot switch it off, and new members inherit the team setting.
Choosing a tier without overpaying
Plus at $8 a month is a Grok-and-Cursor-models plan: no third-party models, no cloud agents, no automated code review. If you rely on Claude, GPT or Gemini models inside the editor, the real entry point is Premium at $30, and even there those models are paid separately at API list price from your prepaid balance. Super and Ultra mostly buy a bigger weekly pool (15 and 50 times Plus) and, on Super, priority access at peak times.
Because pool sizes are relative and do not roll over, the only reliable way to size a plan is to watch your own usage dashboard for a few weeks. Start monthly. Annual billing saves money (Premium is $300 a year against $30 a month), but with non-refundable fees, a year is a long commitment to a pool you cannot measure in advance.
For teams, remember that seats can be mixed, Plus is not available, and the $0.25 per million token rate applies on eligible third-party requests on top of model prices.
Finally, the free plan is a taster, not a working tier: the pricing page describes it only as limited AI usage with limited agent and Chat requests, and gives no numbers. Use it to check that the editor suits your workflow, then decide whether your work needs third-party models before choosing between Plus and Premium.
FAQ
Can I get a refund on Cursor?
The terms say fees are non-refundable except as required by law. Cancel at least 24 hours before renewal to avoid the next charge.
Does Cursor's usage roll over?
No. The included pool refreshes weekly and unused usage does not roll over. Prepaid credit is different and lasts until used or 365 days after purchase.
Are Claude or GPT models included in a Cursor subscription?
Not in the price. On Premium and above, third-party models are billed at the model's API list price from prepaid credit. Plus and Free do not offer them.
Does Cursor train on my code?
The terms say Anysphere will not train on your content without your explicit agreement. With Privacy Mode on, the docs say your code is never used for training by Cursor or its model providers.
Who owns code that Cursor writes?
The terms assign to you all of Anysphere's rights in its suggestions, and you keep the rights in your own inputs.
