Jasper vs Grammarly: which fine print is kinder to you?
Short answer
Grammarly is the safer buy for most writers: a useful free plan, clear ownership of your text and a training setting you can switch off. Jasper targets marketing teams. Its pricing page says it does not train on your data, but its terms let it use inputs and outputs to improve its own models, and a free trial bills without a reminder.

| What users say | D Trustpilot gives Jasper a TrustScore of 3.3 from 4,138 reviews. The star split is 87% five-star, but recent reviews are few and mostly one-star, and Trustpilot notes the company hasn't replied to negative reviews. The repeated complaint is billing: charges after cancelling or after a trial, annual auto-renewals, and refunds refused. The praise is about quick marketing drafts. | B App users are happy with it (4.7 from about 228,000 App Store ratings, 4.3 from about 264,000 on Google Play, 4.7 from 58 Product Hunt reviews), while Trustpilot is harsher at 3.1 from 10,493 reviews. The most repeated complaints are billing and cancellation trouble and wrong or intrusive suggestions since the push into AI features. The most repeated praise is dependable everyday spelling and grammar help. |
| Pricing clarity | B Pro is listed in USD at $69 per seat per month, or $59 per month billed yearly with a 12-month commitment, and includes one seat. Business is quote-only and starts with a 12-month commitment. Payment is by card only: the pricing page says Jasper does not accept PayPal or prepaid cards, and foreign currency conversion is applied by Stripe. A 20% nonprofit discount is available on request. | C The plans page shows Pro at $12 USD with no billing period beside it. Grammarly's own support article puts Pro at $30 per member per month, $60 per member per quarter, or $144 per member per year, so the headline figure is the yearly rate averaged out; paying monthly costs 2.5 times as much. Added seats are charged at the same rate, prorated for the rest of the billing period. |
| Cancel & refunds | D The terms say there are no refunds for cancellation, and none for unused time if Jasper ends your account. After a free trial you are charged automatically, and the terms say you will not get a notice that the trial ended; you must cancel before midnight Pacific on the last trial day. The terms also say cancellation takes effect in the month after you give notice, while the pricing FAQ says you keep access until the end of your billing cycle. | D The support center says refunds are issued only if required by law, and the terms state all payments are non-refundable, with no refunds or credits for partly used periods. You can cancel at any time and keep Pro until the end of the billing cycle, after which the account converts to Free. The plans page says trial users get an email reminder 2 days before the trial ends. App Store purchases must be refunded through Apple. |
| Limits & credits | C The pricing page says chat and Canvas content creation do not use credits. Usage-based features do: the rate card lists 10 credits per GEO Hub query run, 40 per Research or Translation Agent run and 10 per Grid row, plus per-call API rates. Neither page publishes a credit allowance per plan or a dollar price per credit, and the terms let Jasper set usage limits under a fair use policy. | C Free includes 100 AI prompts a month, Pro 2,000 per member per month, and Enterprise is listed as unlimited. The terms say generative AI use may be limited and that you may be asked to buy extra capacity, which is not refunded when it expires or your subscription ends. Whether unused prompts roll over is not stated. |
| Your data | D The pricing page states that Jasper does not use your data to train AI models, and the trust page says your data is never used to train third-party LLMs. The terms say the opposite for Jasper's own models: Jasper uses inputs and outputs to develop and enhance its AI models, and you grant a perpetual, irrevocable license that covers improving AI models. Only EU and UK users are offered a way to object, by emailing legal@jasper.ai. | C The support article on the Product Improvement and Training control says it is on by default for individual users (Free, Premium and single-user Pro) and for multi-user Pro bought on the website, where only admins can change it. It is automatically off for Enterprise, Pro, Business and Education accounts bought through sales. When it is off, Grammarly says the content you type is not used for training or product improvement for other users. |
| Output rights | C The terms say your inputs and outputs remain yours. But the service license is limited to your internal business operations, and the license you grant Jasper is perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable and transferable, extends to your name, voice or likeness as contained in your content, and covers promoting the services. | B The terms say you own your User Content, and that AI inputs and the outputs generated from them count as your User Content; similar outputs given to other users are not yours. Grammarly takes a royalty-free license to use that content to run and improve the services and develop new features. Organizations may use the service only for internal business purposes. |
